From Chemical Laboratory Technician to Media Designer or Materials Tester, TU Dortmund University currently offers trade training in 17 occupations. Together with the 34 new trainees, the university presently employs about 130 trainees in total, making it one of the city’s largest providers of vocational training. Students at the university gain from thoroughly prepared teaching curricula and close guidance by 29 instructors. After completing their training, a lot of the new professionals have the chance to continue operating at TU Dortmund University.

To give them the best possible start to their training, TU Dortmund University arranges an Induction Week each year for its new trainees. That is why they set off for Hachen on their third day at work, together with their instructors, to get to know each other. Apart from team-building workouts, the three-day excursion also consisted of canoeing. Back in Dortmund, the university and its structures and processes existed in detail: health, occupational safety, how to send requests for time off, the Pausenexpress (workout throughout breaks) and various sports– essential foundations that help trainees find their feet in everyday working life and select the choices best for them from the wide range available.

Trainees in 11 occupations

The 34 girls and males are getting training in the following eleven professions: Chemical Lab Service Technician, Electronics Technician for Equipment and Systems, Computer Technology Specialist (Discipline: System Integration), Industrial Mechanic, Technical Item Designer, Materials Tester, Office Supervisor, Audiovisual Media Designer, Sport and Physical Fitness Management Assistant, Glass Apparatus Contractor, and Media and Information Provider Expert.

Traineeships for 2026
