
The Lagos State Education District I has effectively staged its 2026 Yearly Sports Celebration in a vibrant and energetic display of unity, discipline, and vibrant excellence at the Dairy Farm School Complex.
The event combined trainees, teachers, and dignitaries from across the district in a vibrant atmosphere that underscored the importance of sports in holistic education and community building.
At the centre of the event was the Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary, Education District I, Dr. Idowu Olufunke Oyetola, whose presence and active participation set the tone for the unforgettable celebration. Delivering her welcome address, she warmly received visitors and acknowledged significant characters, consisting of previous Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Modupe David, Chairman of Ojokoro LCDA, Mrs. Busari, along with Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, his deputy, Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, and the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun.
Speaking on the significance of the festival, Dr. Oyetola stressed the function of sports in shaping well-rounded individuals.
“Sports remain a powerful tool for youth empowerment, discipline, and unity. I encourage all participants to compete with stability, fairness, and a spirit of togetherness,” she said.
Among the standout moments of the celebration was the grand parade, where trainees from Agege, Ifako-Ijaiye, and Alimosho showed impressive coordination, discipline, and cultural pride. In a symbolic program of management, Dr. Oyetola joined the trainees on the parade ground, marching along with them in a gesture that drew widespread adoration and excitement.
The competitions commenced with high energy, featuring awesome occasions such as the 100-meter junior race, 800-meter race, and a captivating football match that showcased teamwork and tactical luster. A major emphasize was the high table relay race, where Dr. Oyetola showed extraordinary dexterity and emerged in first position, making loud applause from spectators.
At the end of the contests, Agege clinched the overall very first position with an impressive efficiency. Ifako-Ijaiye completed as first runner-up, while Alimosho protected second runner-up, with all teams applauded for their sportsmanship and durability.
The festival concluded with expressions of thankfulness to organisers, personnel, and trainees whose efforts guaranteed its success.
