
The effective rescue of the 44 pupils and instructors abducted in Oriire City government Area of Oyo State has been described by the Nigerian Army as the result of weeks of painstaking intelligence event, strategic preparation and seamless cooperation amongst security firms.
In a declaration released on Friday by the Acting Deputy Director, 2 Department Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, the Army stated the victims were rescued on July 10 during “intelligence-led, thoroughly prepared and carried out operations” led by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division, Major General CR Nnebeife.
According to the Army, the operation included workers from the Office of the National Security Advisor, the National Counter Terrorism Centre, Defence Headquarters, the Nigerian Army, Navy and Flying Force, the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Solutions, the National Intelligence Firm, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, along with Amotekun operatives, local vigilantes and hunters.
The Army explained that the operation, which lasted for more than a month, focused not only on locating the abducted students and instructors but likewise on taking apart the criminal network behind the kidnapping.
It mentioned that security forces targeted the terrorists’ kingpins, logistics networks, informants and hideouts within the Old Oyo National Forest and other areas.
“As part of the operations, multiple arrests were made within Oyo State and in other areas across some states in the country. “It is sufficient to keep in mind that the operations were thoroughly planned and executed to prevent security damages and to similarly guarantee that the innocent kids and teachers were securely saved. However, there were some casualties on the part of the security forces,” it said.
The saved victims are currently receiving medical attention at an undisclosed hospital before being handed over to the Oyo State Federal government for reunification with their households.
