opened entries for the National Essay Competitors 2026. The competitors is set to construct emergency situation readiness, disaster awareness, and resilience amongst Nigeria’s youth. Senior Secondary School
Topic: “My Function in Catastrophe Danger Decrease”
Students in tertiary organizations
Topic: “Environment Modification and Catastrophe Management in Nigeria”
NYSC “Emergency Situation Management Vanguards” corps members
Subject: “Innovation for Disaster Response: Opportunities and Obstacles”
Prize money for winners
Winners will get cash prizes in three locations:
- First Place: N500,000
- First Runner Up: N300,000
- 2nd Runner Up: N200,000
That prize list is clear, and it gives each category real weight.
Submission rules and eligibility
Interested participants need to follow the stated rules for their entries to count.
Format for essays
Entries should be sent as a Word document in Times New Roman, size 12 font.
Word count
- Senior Secondary School classification: optimum 500 words
- All other classifications: maximum 1,000 words
Entry limit
Just one entry is allowed per person.
Details to include
Each entry needs to carry the individual’s complete name, category, and information of school or NYSC release.

How NEMA will examine entries
The judging requirements follow a weighted scale:
- 40% for content importance and depth
- 30% for originality and creativity
- 30% for structure, grammar, and design
That breakdown provides a clear picture of what the judges will try to find; content leads, however writing quality still holds its location.
NEMA essay competitors deadline
The due date for submission is 15 April 2026.
Entries sent out after that date, or entries that do not satisfy the stated conditions, will not be considered. That Date sits at the heart of the notice.
