The Nigerian Education Loan Fund has applauded the management of Delta State University, Abraka, for what it referred to as an encouraging method to implementing the Federal government’s student loan program.
The commendation followed a directive issued by the university on March 6, 2026, enabling students whose loan applications under the NELFUND scheme have been confirmed or whose funds have currently been launched to participate in the very first term examinations for the 2025/2026 scholastic session.
The instruction was communicated through an internal memo signed by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Hilary Ijeoma.
According to the regulation, students whose application status on the NELFUND website checks out “verified” or “paid out” will be allowed to sit for their examinations, supplied they present evidence of their status on the loan platform.
Reacting to the choice, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NELFUND, Akintunde Sawyerr, explained the university’s action as a good demonstration of cooperation between higher institutions and the student loan company.
In a declaration provided on Monday by NELFUND’s Director of Strategic Communications, Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, Sawyerr stated the procedure reflects a clear understanding of the purpose of the loan program.
