
UMUAHIA, ABIA STATE— The Abia State Federal government has revealed a strategic compression of the six-year main education curriculum into a three-year Accelerated Basic Education Programme.
The effort, aimed at expanding literacy amongst adults and out-of-school citizens, was unveiled by the State Information Commissioner, Prince Okey Kanu, following the State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti on Monday, April 13, 2026.
The program is created to offer a 2nd opportunity for individuals who missed out on early official education to acquire their First School Leaving Certificate (FSLC) in half the traditional time.
Education: Speeding Up Literacy and Teacher Recruitment
The accelerated program is being implemented by the State Firm for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education.
Commissioner Kanu advised homeowners to seize this rare chance to formalise their basic education, noting that Abia is amongst the few states pioneering this condensed academic model for non-traditional learners.
At the same time, the state is advancing its recruitment of 4,000 new instructors to reinforce the academic sector.
