The Lagos State Government has officially launched the Digital National Education Management Info System (DNEMIS) for the 2026 Annual School Census, marking a major shift from manual to digital education information collection throughout public and private main and secondary schools in the state.
The flag-off event, hung on Thursday at Ikeja Junior Grade School, Bolade-Oshodi, signals the start of a completely digital school census in compliance with the Federal government’s instruction mandating all states to embrace the National Education Management Info System for education information collection and management.
Speaking at the occasion, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, described the effort as a significant milestone in strengthening education preparation, governance and service shipment in Lagos State.
According to him, the Annual School Census stays one of the most essential workouts in the education sector since it provides reliable data needed for reliable preparation, policy solution, budgeting and fair allocation of educational resources.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Lagos State Coordinating System and Performing Statistician-General, Mr. Bashir Temitayo Oseni-Ope, described the intro of the Digital NEMIS as a strategic intervention that would reinforce information integrity and promote evidence-based decision-making in the education sector.
He worried that trustworthy education data is important for reliable policy application, tracking and evaluation, including that the success of the digital census depends on the active involvement of every public and private school in the state.
