Baroness Warwick of Undercliffe shone a light on the “genuine problems” facing global trainees and UK universities in your home of Lords yesterday, compelling policymakers to meet with sector leaders to work on services.
She highlighted issues “connecting to the red, amber, green methodology, the lack of actual time information showing UKVI, visa processing delays and the absence of clarity about the reasons for an unexpected upsurge in visa rejections”.
She added the matter was particularly vital given the “massive effect” the choices of global students have on UK university financial resources.
It follows the statement in last year’s migration white paper of tighter Standard Compliance Evaluation (BCA) metrics that universities will need to satisfy in order to keep their ability to recruit worldwide trainees.
Stakeholders invited UK minister of state for the Home Office Sir David Hanson’s commitment to meet with the Baroness and with Universities UK International (UUKi) to deal with such concerns.
“This is an important step. The trainee visa system needs to work better for the global students who come here to study and for the universities that welcome them,” stated UUKi.
