The Rivers State Federal government has actually suspended Knowledge Gate International School following the death of a two-year-old pupil at the facility in Eligbolo, Obio/Akpor City Government Location.
The toddler, recognized as Wynne Akekue, reportedly passed away from problems after a bookshelf fell on her while she was asleep in her class on March 17, 2026.
Her parents, Dr Iasuaka Akekue and Mrs Chinyerum Akekue, had earlier demanded justice during a news briefing in Port Harcourt, declaring that the school management tried to hide details surrounding the event. The school, however, rejected the claims, stating it is cooperating with appropriate authorities, consisting of the police.
The State Commissioner for Education, Peters Nwagor, said the decision to close down the school followed engagement with its management and an independent investigation by the Ministry.
He added that the school would remain closed till all problems relating to the event are totally dealt with.
