The Research Center Chemical Sciences and Sustainability is part of the Research study Alliance Ruhr, which emerged from the Ruhr Conference and is moneyed by the State of North Rhine-Westphalia. The center is closely linked to the Cluster of Excellence RESOLV, which checks out the role of solvents in chemical and biological processes at the molecular level and develops options for usage in industrial applications and items.

Minister of Science Ina Brandes worries: “The Ruhr area demonstrates how successful structural change can be accomplished through science. With the Research Study Alliance Ruhr, the area’s three universities bring together their strengths and develop a globally noticeable center for innovative research study in the key future fields of science and research. Here, the ideas and technologies we need for environment defense, development, and economic strength are being established.”

A property for North Rhine-Westphalia as center for chemistry

“The Research Center is a fantastic possession for the chemistry sector in North Rhein-Westphalia. We are bundling the strengths of 3 universities researching in this field and complying closely, supported by the state federal government and in rewarding cooperation with strong research partners, including 3 Max Planck Institutes,” state the Rectors of the University of Duisburg-Essen, Prof. Barbara Albert, Ruhr University Bochum, Prof. Martin Paul, and TU Dortmund University, Prof. Manfred Bayer. “This meaningful complete package enables us to draw in internationally renowned researchers to our region and maintain them here long-term.”

The concept of attracting top worldwide researchers to research in the Ruhr area is a typical thread of the entire Research Alliance Ruhr with its 4 proving ground and one college. A total of 50 new research professorships are being created, 35 of which have currently been filled. Twelve professorships are assigned to the Proving ground Chemical Sciences and Sustainability, 6 of which have already been filled. Six further visits are planned, consisting of the fields of artificial intelligence in chemistry, sustainable catalysis, and biotechnology. All scientists newly designated by the center are likewise members of the Cluster of Quality RESOLV and hence contribute to the cluster’s success.
