ABUJA, FCT– The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) has issued a fresh call to the Federal Government to urgently conclude all ongoing negotiations with university unions to avoid additional instability within the nation’s tertiary education system.

The charge was consisted of in an Eid-el-Fitr message launched on Friday, March 20, 2026, by the union’s National President, Associate Mohammed Ibrahim.

Dealing with the wider national context, the SSANU leader highlighted the disastrous impact of rising expenses of surviving on university workers and their families. He urged the federal government at all levels to prioritise policies that bring back the buying power of the Nigerian worker.

Beyond financial concerns, Pal Ibrahim revealed profound grief over current security breaches, specifically mentioning the tragic bombings in Maiduguri.

Explaining the events as “senseless acts of violence,” he extended condolences to the affected families and required a more robust national strategy to secure lives and restore peace across the federation.

Reflecting on the spiritual essence of Ramadan, the union president explained the period as one of renewal and submission to the will of Allah.

He advised Nigerians to accept the ideals of unity and fairness, stressing that a just and flourishing nation can just be developed through cumulative effort and shared respect across ethnic and regional divides.

“As we celebrate, we should stay unfaltering, enthusiastic, and devoted to the suitables we represent,” Ibrahim stated. “Much better days should not just be hoped for, however actively pursued.”

The message concluded with prayers for the approval of the faithful’s sacrifices and continued blessings for the stability of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
