< img src="https://edugist.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/Edugist-Trademaked-Logo.jpg" alt ="" > A group of 127 disengaged staff members of the Michael Okpara University of Farming, Umudike (MOUAU), Abia State, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to intervene in what they referred to as their unjustified removal from service regardless of being recruited through what they insist was an appropriately authorized Federal government work procedure.
The affected workers made the appeal throughout a press briefing in Umuahia on Monday, urging the Federal government and other appropriate authorities to examine the situations surrounding their disengagement.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Eze Ejike, alongside Nwaike Gospel and Roseline Okpechi, alleged that they were forced by the university management to sign disengagement letters after working for about 5 months without receiving incomes.
According to Ejike, they were among 553 candidates used after a recruitment workout approved by the Federal Government in October 2025.
He discussed that the applicants successfully completed interviews, documents, medical screening and biometric enrolment performed under the Federal government Integrated Financial Management Details System (GIFMIS) by officials from the Workplace of the Accountant-General of the Federation before receiving appointment letters in February 2026.
Ejike said the present Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ursula Akanwa, presumed workplace while the recruitment process was being concluded and initially reassured the newly hired staff that their consultations stood since they had actually completed all needed procedures.
He added that the staff members resumed work and were designated to various departments, with some resigning from previous tasks in anticipation of a stable career at the university.
Nevertheless, he claimed that after months without pay, the university management notified them that the employment waiver approved to the institution covered only 426 positions, leaving 127 workers outside the authorized quota.
According to him, while 426 staff members ultimately got salary payments, the staying employees were advised to stop reporting for responsibility.
Ejike further alleged that the afflicted staff were later welcomed to a conference where they were asked to surrender their identity cards and indication disengagement letters.
He declared that some employees signed the documents under pressure after security workers allegedly prevented them from leaving the location.

The group likewise revealed issue over another conference where the impacted employees were supposedly asked to total forms including their personal and banking details without being given any explanation concerning their employment status.
The employees have attracted President Tinubu, the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, the National Assembly, the Nigeria Labour Congress, the Academic Personnel Union of Universities and appropriate human rights organisations to investigate the matter and facilitate their reinstatement.
They kept that they pleased all recruitment requirements and were legally used, insisting that they deserved justice.
Efforts to acquire a reaction from the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ursula Akanwa, were unsuccessful, as she was supposedly not available for remark at the time of filing this report.
